M4P with CB1 firmware not loading

I’m following the guide and attempting to load firmware but it’s not taking. I use SCP to pull it off the board and change the name to firmware.bin and tried multiple different cards, capitalized firmware and used a formatting tool also. 
 

Additionally I can’t get 5v power via usb even with the jumper.

I had luck by putting the micro card into a card adaptor and putting it in the large port. Wait a few minutes and remove the micro card in install in into the small card port and it works. This is the only way I have been able to get it to work.

So thats what it was, now I am getting 

ls: cannot access '/dev/serial/by-id/*': No such file or directory

 

When I attempt to communicate from compute module to the board. I have ensured the firmware settings are dead on. I am going to try an older version to see if that changes anything.

Well, That did convert the file to .cur but it says 0 bites for the size of the file. So that doesnt work.  I was having a different problem and they told me to use 2.2.0 . But I am having the same problem. Wont convert the file.
