Problems with GTR V1

So, I've been working out the kinks of the GTR and TMC2209. I'm finding it seems like the GTR can't keep up with microsteps set above 16. This is kind of disappointing as this seems like it should be a pretty capable board. I can't figure out if there's some other setting in Marlin I'm missing that's causing the processor to be overwhelmed and skip steps. I'm using the stock Creality (Ender 3, CR-10) 12864 LCD and had to set one of the delays to 600 to remove artifacts, so I'm wondering if that's causing some of the slow down as I've seen some warnings about that. All in all, I'm going to be pretty disappointed if I can't use over 16 microsteps on this board.
