BTT 5160 V1.3 documentation

I am trying to place the BTT 5160 V1.3 in software SPI mode but 

	if (ioin.sd_mode) {
		Serial.println("Driver is hardware configured for Step & Dir mode");
		while(true); //   abort("Driver configured for internal motion controller interface");

It fails with the message "Driver is hardware configured for Step & Dir mode"

I have looked for the manual for the V1.3 stepstick but could only find the V1 manual, does anybody know how I can configure this board?
